Oh, I completely agree. I'm not saying they were entirely in the same genre. The point I was making was that those two movies transcended their built-in audiences - fans of Eminem and fans of NWA, respectively - and gained attention from more casual moviegoers.

Straight Outta Compton worked for the same reason 8 Mile worked: on top of bringing in the built-in audience of the artist's fans, it was also a well directed, shot and acted film in its own right; so critics paid extra attention and people who weren't necessarily fans of NWA or rap music also went to see it, just

Tupac: Resurrection will be the representative "Tupac movie" for as long as it needs to be, and I'm completely okay with that. Sure, the documentary was very much influenced by Afeni and Pac's estate, but it's still a fantastic piece of work.

I consider both Me Against The World and 7 Day Theory — two polar-opposite albums both in sound, and in terms of points in Pac's career — to be in the same ballpark as Ready to Die.
