That's a shame alright. I've found his batman pretty disappointing after loving his other work. But still some decent ideas in there.

Hooray problem solved!
Don't read DC then. There's a literally millions of other things to read.
Ok we have VERY different opinions about how good Watchmen is. But that's ok. Different strokes and all that. I certainly won't argue that your opinion about it is invalid. I suppose I'll just continue to enjoy what I enjoy and you continue to enjoy what you enjoy and everyone is happy!
Well that's ok agree to disagree on this one I suppose!
I would argue that there is space both for 'high art' which aims to create or say something new or interesting and entertainment which seeks merely to entertain. Superhero comics are mostly the latter with only a few exceptions. With that in mind the question really is as simple as 'did people enjoy it?'. If you…
Fair enough, I suppose I'm more inclined to think literally everything in big two comics is and has been for a very long time primarily sales driven. I still enjoy a lot of it anyway. At the end of the day this will do very well or stutter out and be replaced by the next thing and the cycle will continue. So to each…
Because this is the story they wanted to tell. My point wasn't that Doctor Manhattan and Captain Atom are interchangeable. My point was that Moore has made a career from taking existing fictional characters and completely changing their personalities to suit the purposes of the story or to reexamine them from a new,…
Agreed!
Fair enough, I suppose I have no right to tell other people what they can take exception to! I hop this story arc ends up pleasantly surprising you!
Couldn't agree more. I totally get why this is not for everyone but this shitting all over everything is getting wearisome. Not just about this but everything in pop culture now. I get very frustrated by it.
I agree and I probably have not expressed myself as well as I could in this thread. Well stated.
How can you misappropriate a character that was already a thinly veiled appropriation of another character? I will never understand this defends of Moore and Watchmen.
Sorry I didn't realise the eternal arbiter of what people are allowed to enjoy was involved here. I'm sorry oh wise one for daring to imply that your opinion was an opinion no more or less valid then anyone else's. Please forgive me.
In a way I think you could argue this actually honors Moore as a creator by doing what has been his shtick for his whole career: Taking existing properties and doing something different with them than the original creator intended.
It's actually dissing both though
Fair enough. I think you're right and I certainly have attached significance to many things which others would not. Batman as a character is very important to me. And I have vehemently hated many things done with the character, particularly recently. I suppose I just try to maintain perspective as much as possible and…
No not at all! Sorry If I sounded offended, I genuinely mean that obviously I need to take others opinions a bit better.
I don't disagree that franchising rarely if ever leads to great or even particularly good art but we are talking about a major superhero comics company here. If people are against corporate franchising of properties then they need to stick to Indie companies. There is nothing wrong with that either, it's totally…
You're right I don't know why I started this, people are obviously just coming at this with completely different perspectives on what is important. Fair enough! Lesson learned.
