It's something you can say about almost any character in a long running sitcom, but her restrained personality in the pilot seems like a million years ago by now. I miss her cynical integrity of those first few episodes.

Although the age gap is big enough to make it feel weird, it's still odd that womanizing Jeff never really pursued Annie given that she looks like Alison Brie.

And yet they feel like it the way she's written.

Annie's a better realized character, which wouldn't be hard as Britta sways between activist and airhead depending on what the plot requires.

I liked her before she was hot.

It's reassuring to hear her character undergoes a bit of 'rehab' in this one. It wasn't before time. They haven't known what to do with her since season 2.

Other reviews I've read have not been nearly as kind, but I'll certainly check it out with hopeful interest.

But… I like that movie. :-(

The Cobbler's co-writer's twitter feed makes for scarily amusing/amusingly scary reading. He seems to have lost his mind: https://twitter.com/paulsado

nvm

Not wanting to sound more hipster than thou, but were they ever really that obscure? They released an EP in 2003 and were pretty much 'big' in the indie world by the release of Funeral a year later. They were a hype band (who David Bowie vouched for, no less) that actually followed through on the hype.

Kids like blood sausage!

Which is just it really: it's a baity band name but ultimately rather arbitrary and it seems silly to get into double standards over it. I'd also bring up Joy Division but I see from the rest of the thread people have put you through the ringer on that one so I'll save us both the time ;-)

Actually FF is a good example, the guy's death was indirectly responsible for the death of millions of others so I'm not sure why that would get a pass if VC doesn't.

Disagree, it's a great record and many critics other than Pitchfork liked it.

I don't. Should I…. rectify that?

I loved BB, but I never considered it a 'slow' show. A lot happened, albeit on a small scale. But hey, I don't think Mad Men is slow either and the internet keeps telling me that it is.

No. It's pretty damn good.

Disagree, I still smile at the happy song and dance they did and Michael's subsequent 'gifts'. If it did feel tonally out of place it was only because the series had become way too mawkish for its own good by then.

I had no problems with the episode, and after the reactions it received it got to the point where I wondered if my tolerance was down to being British and thus more into the cringe, even cruel, humour. I'm still not sure.
