They don't have to follow history and for a lot of parts they haven't. It's a show not a docu-series. They cannot move Mary to Scotland as we would lose nearly every other character from the show.

And totally unrecognisable, despite what she says and despite what Francis does, Francis is and will always be the love of her life. Same as Mary is the love of Francis' life. So for me that is just not possible and why this triangle with Conde is simply ridiculous.
