Reductive only because I wasn't trying to post a complete analysis of MD right here. Cinephile magazine, in fact, I was where I first read the analysis that it was all just a dream (not a dream within a dream, as someone corrected me above) . That, and and an admittedly non-intellectual friend who had never seen a

Just a guess, but it was the blackish-yellowish blood pool at his feet. That dude was not right!

Sarah was the girl who swallowed the frog bug in Chapter 8. And the kid will hopefully beat the sh*t out of Bad Coop!

But that's what I meant. We still have expectations within the weird, twisted world of Lynch. They are not expectations of realism, but they're expectations around the narrative he's built (and we've interpreted) over the course of years. It doesn't have to make logical sense. It just has to make some sort of sense

Same, and beautifully put! I moved up here a few years back and visit Mt. Si regularly (mountain you always see in TP, for those who don't know). It's a tough-but-extremely-popular hike. There's a back route that's little known and very secluded, that I always hike in winter. Never do I fail to think of Twin Peaks.

omg /ded XD

Oh god I just laughed super hard at my desk at work, where I really shouldn't be reading AV Club right now…

Again - expectations. It's been building for so long that DAMMIT, we want some answers! And not, "It's been a dream the whole time and everyone is alive." Although…I might get pretty emotional if Laura wakes up and was still alive and well…

One word: expectations. When expectations are set, it's very hard to "unset" them. (Although with Lynch, should we really ever be setting anything? We know of his capacity to not stick with any type of reality…) That said, *within the framework of this being a Lynch production*, we have still set some expectations -

No, you're right, it's my bad memory. MD was just one series of dreams/hallucinations. Lynch once said that everything he creates comes from his subconscious, from dreams. So it's not that far off to think he could be doing the same thing here…

So Mulholland Drive turned out to be a dream within a dream. Anybody else slightly worried that this entire show will end up just being a dream? I think someone might've mentioned it earlier. Not sure how I feel about that.

Yeah, and what about that yellow light that left the young boy's body who got hit by a car? Kind of like a soul going up to heaven? maybe that's less biblical and just more spiritual, though.

Same! And so glad you and Nadine found each other ;)

Agreed.

Yes! I live right by there and I recognized a lot of the spots, too.

I agree, that was pretty hilarious

Agreed that it's Billy. That was my first thought, when the girl at the bar with talking about how weird he was acting and the blood coming out of his mouth. Also, that whole scene with the drunk was super scary.

I like these ideas! David Lynch has always kind of been interested in scary-looking homeless people. Remember Mulholland Drive?

Good call! That scene also terrified me and it's what I was thinking of when I woke up in the middle of the night.

I think the drunk was Billy, and it's garmonbozia. Remember that the girl in the bar said he was acting off, and scaled a 6 foot fence as if it were nothing?
