I agree that Every Frame a Painting is the best, and I definitely don't watch every Nerdwriter video, but that's a pretty unfair assessment if you ask me. It was actually because of Tony Zhao's (Every Frame a Painting) recommendation that I checked Evan's (Nerdwriter) channel out in the first place. Sure, the

Geology Rocks!

Damn, thats a lot of Ozu. I've only seen Tokyo Story and There Was a Father.

DEATH PROOF NUMERO UNO. Ahem. Sorry. I liked Hateful Eight more than both Django and Inglorious even though I think that those movies have fewer actual flaws. The Hateful Eight is overlong and mired with a few moldy Tarantino-isms, but the ambition in concept, structure, and purpose more than make up for it.

The only episode of Black Mirror I've seen was a pretty mixed bag. The Jon Hamm one. Starts off wild and unpredictable, but then turns so cynical that its outcome becomes dead obvious. Is it worth giving another try?

I used to feel similarly, and I still think the first 4 episodes of the show are plain bad. Episode 5 was pretty good. Everything after is mostly excellent. However, even now I don't think the show is very funny (You're the Worst is a lot funnier imo). My feelings for the show are fairly in line with the consensus.

Spike Jonze anyone? Briefly married to Sofia Coppola and thereby related to the rest of the family (including Nic mother fucking Cage), widely sought after to direct music videos and is friends with many in the music industry, producer on Jackass and friends with the entire gang, casually gets guest appearance in

Birdman's "single take" was definitely gimmicky, but for all my other complaints with the movie I wouldn't call it pointless. The unbroken nature of the shot(s) is supposed to replicate the feeling of a theatrical production. I say 'supposed' because it's an imperfect translation. Actual theatrical productions are

I genuinely love this movie but I actually think Mike D'Angelo was on to something when he was criticizing the long, showy tracking shots. The main defense is that these shots better capture the chaos of the moment. D'Angelo disagreed and countered with the chase sequence in se7en http://www.avclub.com/artic… as a

Quick update: I marathoned season 1 of Bojack horseman yesterday and it's excellent. Right now I would say that I think Rick and Morty is the funnier, more inventive show, but Bojack Horseman is more cathartic one. Both are head and shoulders above most else on TV.

Having just marathoned the first season of Bojack Horseman yesterday I both agree and disagree with some of the things you've said. Pretty much everything past episode 5 is fantastic, but I did find the first 3 episodes to be pretty tough to get through.

On the other end of the spectrum Steven Universe has embraced unwavering optimism to equal success. Not that it doesn't have heavy existential crises every once and a while too, its just that its emotional equilibrium is a lot more happy.

I ought to give Bojack Horseman another try. I watched the first few episodes last year when they first came out and it felt like a less witty version of Archer. Since then though, I've only heard good things. It became a critical darling and my friends all love it.

I can't believe this guy's patreon has a grand total of 2 dollars per month. This is some seriously high quality content and he gets pretty decent views. I would have figured he would at least something sustainable.

You may have strongly got the sense that the movie was espousing the notion, but I strongly got the sense that the movie wasn't. Django even, very specifically, releases two of the house slaves at the end of the movie when he blows up the rest Candieland. I get that Stephen is an ugly character and the movie wants us

"I've known House N*****s like you my whole life."

I think that is a pretty gross misreading of the movie. I could see that if Stephen were the only house slave or all of the house slaves were characterized as race traitors but its entirely exclusive to Sam Jackson's character.

Smh I can't even grammar right.

I FIND YOUR LACK OF STEVEN UNIVERSE IS DISTURBING.

Last I checked Django Unchained wasn't a beacon of historical accuracy, and writers take liberty with their characters all the time so thats not a real excuse. I cut Tarantino some slack because he has written plenty of great, memorable female characters before, but I know for a fact he could have done better with
