Couldn't disagree more. Neither is he trying to condense African-American slavery experience nor is the film even close to approaching what I would call vapid. The main thrust to Django's plot is about revealing the absurdity of the white savior trope but it has nothing to do with slavery. Tarantino never claims that

The biggest remaining question that me and my roommate wrestled with, was Bourdin's story about his childhood. You can either choose to believe Bourdin was shitting us about that too, or you can accept it as truth because that level of dysfunction would go a long way towards explaining his behavior.
