Amen! At around age 10, I used to read one of the "Book of Lists" a lot and read all about "Celebrated Transsexuals." I learned that they were people who identified with the opposite gender and went through "sex change" operations. It didn't freak me out or anything, but just like the majority of people, I laughed at…
I had a friend in high school named Doris. A year younger than me (now early 40s). Interestingly, she was one of those really independent types who didn't have much use for her parents, went wherever she wanted and seemed to be born 35 years old.
I'm pretty sure Ethel and Hortense are close to extinction.
I thought the same thing! I like Darlene Jenner
Yep. I'm sticking with WHM and How Did This Get Made?
Welcome to epiphany. I knew deep down Ghostbusters 2 wasn't that good, but when I heard the WHM episode, I realized it was also lazy, sad and unfunny.
I'm the girl
I watched it! Good to know it's available again (and that someone else noticed.)
Some of my favorites are from comedians I'm not always crazy about but they just hit out of the park with these:
Norm McDonald's bits about the weiner dog giving you a hickey and the guy killing his family because the devil told him to are never not funny. Mainly because of his delivery.
And, I haven't been able to find…
Sam the Clam owned an underwater night club. During a particularly wild night, he unexpectedly died and went to heaven. St. Peter gave him his halo, harp and wings. Sam told St. Peter he wasn't quite ready to go. He wanted to spend one more night at his club. St. Peter finally said yes, and Sam went back to the party.…
You're not alone. Something about the smarmy smile or the voice.
OK. My secret favorite 70s talky-talk song is "My Girl Bill." You can't say it takes itself too seriously.
Because I heard the adults in my life singing it when I was a toddler, I still love Tie a Yellow Ribbon.
This reminds me of how my mother would often use Carrie Snodgress and Cloris Leachman as examples of how actresses don't need to change their names anymore.
I used to enjoy this show, especially when they dropped the pizza place. It was fun and low-stakes and when I thought I was watching a generic time waster, there would be some bizarre plot point or one liner that made me do a double take. Also, what happened to the guy who played Pete?
Great to have one of my favorite features back!
The main thing I remember about this show was my mother thought the first actress to play Mrs. Potter was perfect. When they replaced her with a wackier type, she hated it.
Correction: I believe most of them were "Sex-agenerians" (Get it?)
Definitely Match Game. The words they couldn't say make it hilarious and fun. But I find myself wishing GSN would do a show where they interview former contestants about what it's like to randomly see their younger selves pop up on reruns.
