since I really like Tom Felton and his character I think it's somewhat a shame he's becoming the love interest, he deserves better than being a plot device.

to be fair Oliver always had a blind spot the size of Canada regarding the misdeeds of his family and loved ones. he also couldn't believe his mother dear had any shortcomings, same for his sister.

I thought exactly the same, even if he can't feel pain and injury the damage to the body is still done. if bones break, if he loses too much blood, if organs start to fail he'll still die or at least be unable to move.
