Assuming that's true, it's probably the result of out-dated gender role assumptions that women stayed home to care for the house and kids all day and so would be there to watch day-time television (not that any woman taking care of the kids and home actually has the time to watch tv all day).

So… I loved the twist of the Prestige that this is talking about. But the deus ex machina of Angier's trick was LAME. It kinda ruined the movie for me the first time.
