That "every bit of fear" line was NOT a quote from Maher, he never said that. That line was the writer's incorrect interpretation of Maher's beliefs. Notice how the writer of this article *didn't* actually quote Maher on Islam? It's because Maher is more nuanced than that quote you posted.

This article is a real low-point for AVC. You could totally write a thoughtful critique of Maher's show, but this wasn't it. This essay was shallow and didn't make a convincing case that Maher is irrelevant or bigoted.

Spot on, this was a terrible essay and the most recent episode has essentially proven Maher's relevance. And let's be real, a lot of people who watch John Oliver only know of conservatives what they hear Oliver paraphrase.
