But the pro wrestling coverage, that's here to stay?
But the pro wrestling coverage, that's here to stay?
Eh, it's their site and they can do what they want, but cable news is not really in their wheelhouse. There hasn't been any coverage of the shows or personalities before, I just think they wanted to get the comments (i.e. pageviews) associated with writing about a reviled figure (to this audience) like Ailes. It's the…
Also, this is at least tied to movies, that article AVClub ran on Roger Ailes' firing - what the hell was that? This is not a politics site, I've never read any other articles on the comings and goings of cable news personalities. If AV Club is gonna expand their political coverage, that's not a good sign - it's just…
Oh lord, please don't make this guy more famous. Really, he should be consigned to the alt-right ghetto and not mentioned in mainstream media outlets. Glen Beck would've never happened if we'd just ignored him. Attention, even negative attention, fuels these types.
Hand-drawn *is* extremely expensive and time-consuming, so I understand studios think the target audience doesn't care (and have had their expectations set by years of sub-par animation and character design). I think we had a golden age for a while, during the post "Roger Rabbit" animation boom, because they didn't…
Everything looks so square-ish nowadays because the drawing tools on 2D computer animation programs kind of pull you in that style. I hate the way it looks. I also hate the backgrounds on these new shows, the original "DuckTales" had these gorgeous matte paintings - it really made the show look on par with what Disney…
Chris Elliot says in the "Live From New York" book that he made the SNL cast too late in his career, after he'd had his own show/movie and developed a style of comedy that didn't fit.
Elliot: "For the first few years at Letterman, I thought, you know, it was a steppingstone — to Saturday Night Live. And to fail that…
Bless you for saying this.
Hehe, very true - the whole joke is how Jerry's "help" actually causes the business to close down, so he's not really giving great advice and also giving Babu false hope. But Jerry also catches himself patting himself on the back in his internal monologue and says "get over yourself".
Yeah, good point - that was a low moment for George but also hilarious in context. Everyone, Jerry included, was totally disgusted by Georges's cowardice in that scene (even George is ashamed after the fact) - so it's not like the Susan death where the whole gang is just apathetic to someone dying.
That was true in the years immediately after the show ended, but I think the pendulum has swung back and people recognize what the all-time great eps were (Chinese Restaurant, The Opposite, The Sponge, Soup Nazi, The Contest, The Boyfriend, to name a few)
I do think this *was* a turn for the show. The cast and creators got it in their head that the "Seinfeld" gang were awful, malicious, cruel people and always were - when really they weren't always depicted that way.
The original idea, and I remember Jerry Seinfeld saying this in an interview, was that the foursome…
Die Hard 3 is one movie that takes place in NYC and actually feels like it knows the city, doesn't just go to Time Square and the Statue of Liberty.
Thomas Crown remake is not up to par with the others on that list.
It was good, but you're probably right that Hollywood self-regard had something to do with its acclaim.
After the pilot, I needed like a week off before I wanted to check out Black Mirror's second episode.
Subtle? I think he's funny, but wouldn't use that term to describe him.
Nowhere near this list, as it should be!
The sequels were awful and everyone is all "bro" this and "bro" that, but the original was good.
Great call.
