Agreed. SoS was indeed a blatant LoTR rip off and quite honestly I'm surprised that Terry Brooks was never sued for that as the parallels as so blindingly obvious. Where as Elfstones was a very original work and quite a good story as well.

From what I recall there was a part in the 1st book where they travelled through the wreckage of an ancient city and where attacked by some sort of hybrid machine/monster thing. From that point on there were hardly any other references to the world before.
