I think what’s most likely is Fox called him and told him he had to abide by new standards* due to the defamation suit. He threw a tantrum and wouldn’t comply so Fox fired him.

Largely agree but included in that “best interest of the company” would be on air apologies from Fox News. The entire suit came about because on air lies were told that damaged the rep of the company. Logically on air corrections should be apart of appeasing the damage.

Sometimes corporations can be petty so I was at least hoping an on-air admittance and apology. I never expected them to fire anyone or anything grandiose for the reasons you mentioned but a little something to make them squirm on air seemed reasonable.
