I don't think Lynch has "problems in his treatment of female characters". I think he's one of a handful of male directors who actually gives his female characters inner lives and depth. I hated the Surface. I tried it out for a brief time while my Wacom was under the weather. The screen was glossy, which caused a somewhat awkward drawing experience, and I felt the pressure sensitivity was sub-par. On top of that it's expensive.
