Very eager to read this. Upon hearing about it (it was announced almost a year ago), I thought it was very odd that Saunders's first foray into novels would be a historical novel. It just seemed so… ordinary. Nice to hear that he's bringing his own singular style and imagination to the subject.

Oh, I didn't even know that. Fuckin' a!

Just to put in perspective how cool things uses to be compared to now: Obama's White House Press Secretary Jay Carney was a rabid fan of Guided By Voices, and even had a framed copy of "Bee Thousand" in his office.

A few years ago when a mother was pissed that the virgin daiquiri she ordered her kid had alcohol in it… but that only made news in my town.

So there's an actual Biblical justification for the statement, "I didn't ask to be born."

That's really an ongoing debate. I've heard from people who have followed and observed him that a couple years ago they probably would've said, no, it's just an act. Lately though those same people seem to be leaning toward the camp of yes, he does believe what he says. (that could also be assisted by the fact that he

Something that gives me hope for America is that with every day we move further into Donald Trump's presidency, it seems that people are realizing, yeah, this was a bad idea. Immediately after his election, it seemed like people were just going along with it (a la the subject of this post). That's what really worried

And thus "Jesus Shoot Bear" went on to join "Snakes on a Plane" as one of the most descriptive movie titles ever.

"Well, DeputyJunior, it looks like we're gonna have to rethink our relationship." - Kellyanne Conway

In all fairness, when they had him as a host the prevailing wisdom still was, Oh, c'mon. It's not like he'll win the election or anything.

And let's not forget the intelligence community.

Satisfying satire aside, this is a really vicious cycle: Trump White House is hostile toward press… Press gives Trump White House bad coverage (justifiably)… Trump is unprecedentedly unpopular… Trump blames press for his unpopularity… Trump White House is hostile toward press.

It always sounded to me like a college-town Mexican restaurant, run by white people.

It's a shame that its length will scare most people away. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Finished Season 2 of Man in the High Castle. I just love that show. I think it's great entertainment for history buffs, and I'm finally "getting" the sci-fi aspect. I think the balance between sci-fi elements and non-sci-fi elements is handled superbly (i.e., you never feel like you're getting jerked around, a la

I can't imagine what you might be referring to.

Are we talking about the older brother? Yeah, I remember thinking that, in real life, that guy at that time would've been more into stuff like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden.
