Yeah, I don't know what's going to happen over the coming weeks. I'm not sure if the scale of the disaster will make things better or worse…better because it's getting attention, or worse because the resources have to go around.

My mom does not seem to realize how dire their situation is. She keeps talking about living above the garage (there is a garage apartment that I lived in for a while, like the Fonz) until they redo the house. It is crushing.

Sort of. Houston is always at a flooding risk during hurricanes, but this is crazy. I don't think anyone expected this level of destruction, even with the doom-and-gloom predictions beforehand. I don't think it ever got really bad in Houston as far as winds and stuff. I had a cousin on Facebook calling it "Hurricane…

I can't find any news confirmations but according to my family Beltway 8 (a major tollway around the outskirts of Houston) has collapsed. This is absolutely terrible.

Does anyone have any experience with flooding? How much damage does it do to a house? My parents don't have flood insurance but they seem to think it'll be a cheap "clean up", meanwhile I'm wondering if they'll lose the house.

I think I'd probably save most of it but maybe experiment with investing with a small portion. I've never invested before, but from what I understand, you're supposed to make your money work for you.

The first time I went to the container store (i needed an airtight container for photographic chemicals, if I remember correctly), I was dreading it because it has such a dull name. But it's a really fun store that makes me want to get all organized.
