I would probably buy those sober, if they were cheap enough. There's something very aesthetically pleasing to me about circuitry and I'd convince myself I'd use them in some art or craft project. Then they'd just sit in my closet for a few years until I had to move.

Yeah, it's the wire that always gets me. I have some over-the-ear skullcandy earphones where the wire is detachable / replaceable and it has made a world of difference and they have lasted me something like 3 years now.
