"The show has been remarkably consistent over it's run"

If he was making original material, maybe. But it's formulaic with their overuse of pop culture/current events in lieu of actual narrative or jokes.

I can deal with topical humor, but I miss when episodes weren't centered around it. It's way too current event-heavy and I think they use the quick turnaround as a crutch to avoid having to do actual storytelling.

Looking is wonderful and Groff is wonderful in it.

    Holland Roden is very good.

I like Michelle Obama, and I'm totally cool with her popping up on TV if it relates to causes she deems important (education, healthy eating, etc), but this feels like a little much.

Comments =/= clicks. That's why Survivor coverage is gone even though the finale review from its most recent season did over 900 comments. And why, say, Wayward Pines reviews continue despite the most recent review not topping 100 comments.

    I love Devious Maids.

Darius and Romeo aren't seen in the promo for next week's episode:

Yeah, it needs to stay out of the writing category because the writing this season has been appalling. And I wouldn't mind Zimmer being snubbed, just because Quinn has become way more mustache-twirly this season and the image of her in front of the monitors cackling to herself as horrible stuff happens has been burned

The episode was written by Ariana Jackson, a black woman.

    Have you checked the superdelegates?

And the showrunner is the lady behind The L Word, a very white show in its own right.

    Hello, whore.

My guess is Emmy double dip + "eventizing" the last two seasons (increase ratings and buzz) + giving them enough time to replenish their really thin drama brand.

Downton Abbey also won't be there next season, so there are two open spots in Drama Series. My guess is that they'll be filled by some combination of Westworld, Orange Is the New Black, Ray Donovan (it added a lot of nominations this season, so voters are clearly watching), and a wildcard.

"Although for Colbert to be passed over in favor of the 12:35 show on the same network feels like a deliberate statement of some kind."

Her past two nominations have been ridiculous.

They're down to just Burrell in the acting categories, so they're (fingers crossed) probably vulnerable next year for Comedy Series. They're already out of writing/directing and don't have a whole lot of technical nominations to speak of.

They went nuts for The People vs OJ (22 nominations I think?) and Gooding got swept up in the wave of support.
