And the Wachowskis are not those filmmakers, because they've made several terrific films now.
I just ordered the South Korean DVD of Kafka, which, if my previous experience of buying films MIA on Blu-Ray holds, will finally spur Soderbergh into finishing that director's cut.
Hey, he was fun in Hellboy II, and I trust Soderbergh to at least get something similarly fun out of him this year (if he can get a genuinely great performance out of the manager at a KFC, he can do fine with MacFarlane).
I am honestly so happy whenever anyone discovers it and likes it, let alone because they listened to me about it.
They've picked up some not-so-great (or outright bad) films to dump on VOD in the past, and Sea of Trees is the most glaring, awful testament to that. But they made up for that by releasing my absolute favorite film of the last five years (the aforementioned 20th Century Women) and so many other great films.
Man, "better than him in Assassination of Jesse James" is some high goddamn praise.
I hope you initiated that policy before 20th Century Women but after Sea of Trees.
I'm personally hoping the big ending stinger is that he takes the sheet off and reveals that he's sporting his ludicrous Ocean's Thirteen mustache.
It's incredible how literally all of these movies will be immediately forgotten in the wake of Logan Lucky becoming the defining artwork of the century thus far.
What doesn't seem right about it is how awesome it looks to be.
I don't think we see Hamm's body, so he could theoretically show up in the sequel looking like Brundlefly and out for vengeance.
Also, the idea of the sequel just being a feature-length version of the ending road trip of Elizabethtown is just terrible enough that it may be my favorite film of its year
I actually had a dream last night where the sequel would reveal that while the ending is real, he escaped from prison to get to it, and the film would be about the escape.
That too, although I do feel like an underrated essential part of this group is the new people who occasionally pop in to be completely baffled by our existence and maybe even join us for a little bit, which would be possible in the other two options.
And I'll set up an open thread on The Solute for us.
P.S. Please make one of the seventeen movies you've been circling for years now. Grasshopper Jungle sounds really interesting.
The fuckin' weirdo assassination in MD is what convinced me I was watching a masterpiece the first (and thus far only) time I saw it.
