As someone who thinks Skyfall is only pretty good, I found Spectre to actually be bad, so to me at least it's not only the comparison that hurts it. I suppose I could be penalizing them all in comparison to Casino Royale though which I think is leagues better than the other 3.

Do the Wachowskis regularly make really good movies? The Matrix is literally their only film that can be considered "really good". The audience and critical opinion also seems to fall almost exclusively on the poor side.
If anything I'd say the Wachowskis probably don't have enough people who think they are great to be considered polarizing.

the review does basically state that there is no tension due to the film's structure and that there is no exploration of character. Generally when something is described as a no tension torture porn film with no depth one would expect a lower rating than a B-.
