It almost sounds like the removal of the tracking device is basically a legalized form of entrapment - we don’t like you, so we put a device on your car, and if you remove it or it stops working, we have probable cause to turn you over.

The ship’s captain is always in charge and always responsible for the ship.  The canal pilot provides advice as to how to navigate.  The captain does not have to take the pilot’s advice.  All the pilots are Egyptian citizens. The ship has been interned by a belligerent foreign power. Based on my understanding of The Sea, the honorable thing would be for the crew to scuttle the Ever Given rather than let it fall into enemy hands.
