Perfect example. The Para and Special Olympic games are the perfect venue for athletes with disabilities of all kinds. You do not see deserving Olympians giving way to these kind of exploitative exhibitions in real competition.

My experiment has succeeded. No on on this site is willing to engage on facts and logic. There is only one progressive politically correct view here and that is that virtue signalling is always good no matter what the cost. Those who disagree are [insert ad hominem attack word here] and should seek help or kill…
Was the logic omitted intentionally?
There are literally 19 stars on the comment so I am not literally the only person who agrees with this view.
Nope, very happy and well-adjusted. Just curious how the commetariat would react to a reasoned viewpoint. They reacted predictably.
There are other venues for nice moments. Pretending that this kid is a varsity athlete demeans her and the real athletes.
Why? Because I think a special needs child was needlessly held out as a spectacle for the benefit of others? Because I think that there are other times and places for such things than real varsity games? Seriously, is that an out of the mainstream view? It is not. You can disagree, but bring some logic.
My point is that to allow someone into a varsity game as a sideshow is wrong. If you do it for one, you must do it for all, and no, I don’t think that is right. But to support this spectacle you logically have to believe that everyone has the right to do it.
Then you should get started on a program to get more kids who weren’t on the team into these games. Think how virtuous you would feel!
But really, why this kid and not others? How do you determine who can participate in a varsity game?
Nah. I do believe this, but its not something I’m really worked up about. I just wondered how violently the virtuous Deadspin commenters would react. Predictably, there were lots of ad hominem attacks and foul language. Eh, well, there’s something to be said for consistency.
But more could be happy if we did this every game, right?
Not really. Just asking if we should exploit more kids like these because it makes folks like you feel good. I say no. What say you?
Different. Very different. I’m defending the girl, you are exploiting her.
By all means - stop every varsity game and let someone with a disability score. Are you willing to do that? People would feel good, wouldn’t they?
Nope. On parents and teachers and coaches who exploit them.
But what of those who were excluded?
Yes, you’d rather have this young woman make a spectacle of herself so you can feel good. And I’m the bad guy.
Here you go
