I’m reading David Mitchell’s Utopia Avenue and having very mixed feelings. He used to be my favourite author and I largely adore his work (though Slade Alley felt a bit slight) but this is messy, one character is really irritating and I’m not convinced that’s meant to be the case, and sometimes it’s a bit on the nose

I worked on that first season as a logger / online vision mixer, and it was undoubtedly the best summer of my life, at first no one knew if anyone would watch such a thing and then it exploded, and I couldn’t go anywhere without hearing people talking about it. It was a huge amount of fun behind the scenes too as we

Ah, the innocent words of a person who’s never seen a Zack Snyder movie...

I’ve got to say I’m a little bit in shock, I presumed an article this bad would have been written by Sam Barsanti, but amazingly that’s not the case.

Netflix mysteriously dies in a car crash in a Parisian tunnel.

I really hope this doesn’t mean the end for the Doom Patrol tv series, I know the second season was also shown on HBO Max as well as the streaming service, but I’m not sure who funds it. Either way, if you haven’t seen it and you can, you really should as it’s enormous fun and for my money the best superhero tv series

I’m starting to wonder if Sam Barsanti is the worst thing that’s ever happened to the AV Club.

Then I realised I need wonder no more, as he definitely is.

Your mileage may of course vary but I enjoyed this a lot more than Jesse did, after the culture clash / fish out of water element is discarded it becomes a very funny satire of the media and social media, and makes a lot of very funny pointed comments about how people react to idiocy.

It’s not perfect (I agree with

Having seen it I think you’re absolutely right, and it’s all the better for it.

The review also ignores the satire of the media (and social media) which is a big part of the second half somewhat weirdly, and for me was the funniest element as well.

Ah, Toy Story 3, the film that my friend Paul and I were in tears because of, while his two kids (aged 4 and 6) looked at us in a bemused fashion.

I was wondering the same thing as I’ve become a huge fan of Rich’s this year, prior to it I’d only seen the first season of Miracle Workers, and liked it well enough, but after really loving the second I’ve watched Man Seeking Woman (and that episode of The Simpsons he wrote) and read Spoiled Brats and Elliot Allagash

I’m 100% with you on Paddington 2, it’s one of my favourite films of the last decade. I guess I just phrased it like that as sometimes there’s a bit of snobbery about performances in comedy, and they’re very rarely nominated for any awards despite often being a huge amount more difficult to pull off than a serious

A while back someone mentioned that if you make your browser about half the size of your screen it puts all the text on one page that you don’t have to click through over and over again, and I wish I could remember who it was so that I could thank them over and over again!

Also: Hitmen is surprisingly good, I thought

I love Hugh Grant an enormous amount and think he’s a hugely underrated actor who is slowly getting the respect he’s due with things like A Very British Scandal and Paddington 2 (and yes, I am serious about that last one), but I cannot imagine him as Hannibal in a million years and whoever put his name forward must

Absolutely, I watched The Great Muppet Caper last night and the difference was astounding, not only in performance but also in the intelligence of the script, and just how bloody fun it was too!

I’m with you on Iain, I really didn’t like him and he’s one of my all time least favourite Taskmaster contestants. We’ll have to agree to disagree with Lou though as I’m a huge fan of hers, though I can completely understand why she’s an acquired taste.

I think that reflects just how unimaginative tv companies are when it comes to casting panel shows, I’m a huge fan of the stand up scene in the UK and it frustrates me enormously how many extremely talented comedians never get the chance to appear on one.

Series 6 was my least favourite, but 8 does came after that. I personally wish they’d started with 5 and introduced America to the insanity that is Bob Mortimer (and the amazing craziness of Sally Phillips) but apparently because that’s available to watch on youtube they decided against it.

And I went from thinking Joe

True, though on that front I can’t think of any series that would be more suitable, perhaps I’m wrong but as much as I love many of the contestants I don’t think they’re that well known in the US.
