I’m with you 100%, I laughed at around the sixty minute point and realised that was the first time it had caused me to do so. There were some vaguely amusing moments in the final thirty minutes and Sharon Horgan was great, but I cannot understand the love for this film at all.

You summed it up perfectly there. I have an especial fondness for it too as I was in a pretty low place when I watched it and it cheered me up no end, hell, it even gave me a little faith in humanity, so to see Dowd criticise it so confuses me no end.

I completely agree, Dowd has a cold dead soul if he can’t enjoy such an amazing life affirming and beautifully funny film. But then I think we all knew that anyway.

This was fantastic stuff and a really great read, so thanks for this Will, it’s always pleasing to see you back here on the site.

I saw the film last weekend as there were previews in the UK and what bothered me the most was the way Peter died, having him tortured endlessly by a drunk Kingpin is horrendous, and when he decides to reenact that scene from Irreversible, well, I almost walked out of the cinema.

I was about to say the same thing, and was really surprised to see the story pop up after so long.

It’s still a huge shame though, I really loved the third season and was looking forward to see what they did next.

There’s so much great about the internet which isn’t twitter or facebook, the AV Club needs to get out more!

I always watch the Japanese versions but I’m genuinely tempted to watch the dubbed ones now knowing Michael Keaton and Patrick Stewart were involved!

Inside No.9 - I can understand why it was missing because as far as I know it hasn’t been shown in the US but the live episode was one of the best episodes of tv I’ve seen all year, funny, deranged and genuinely unsettling, and Pemberton and Shearsmith deserve a huge amount of kudos for pulling it off so well.

I guess he doesn’t read the site he used to edit then (which I can understand as it might be too painful for him) as the AV Club has reviewed Detroiters in the past, and run news stories about it too.

I’ve only seen the first season so far but here the second was a big improvement so do still plan to check it out even

I quite liked Mute, it was undoubtedly a dodgy movie but there were certain elements that appealed. Here’s a brief review I wrote elsewhere:

It’s a giant mess of a film, but I do think the critics have been overly harsh. It’s certainly got a lot wrong with it, from segments of the script to the acting department, and

Snubbing The Venture Bros. is insane, it had one of it’s best ever seasons and was a delight from start to finish.

I’d say so, the sixth episode disappointed a little but the rest made me laugh alot.

Nah, that’s your lot, I’m not sure what the other person above is going on about.

I liked the show a fair bit more than the review above, it may not be the funniest thing they’ve ever done but I found it engrossing and fascinating material, a review of the fourth episode is here and there are links to the others at the bottom of the page, as well as links to the episodes themselves as Adult Swim

William Hughes Is.

Ah, that explains that little mystery then.

I saw this today and enjoyed it a lot, I think some of the reviews have gone a little bit over the top for it and it sags a little about two thirds of the way through, but it is an enormous amount of fun and visually is stunning stuff without any question, and the ending may just be my favourite to any superhero film.

Ah, fair enough. And apologies for the insult above, it was rude and uncalled for, I was just in a shitty mood at the time.

I’m not American! And I got the irony, and now regret making the comment.
