In ‘even a broken clock and is right twice’ style, he’s stumbled into the truth.  Opinion & investigative branches of NYT operate independently.  So there is a chance that they will uncover who it was.

There’s a separation between the op-ed section and the news section. The opinion editors know who it is, the news reporters do not. Which sets up an awkward situation where the reporters are trying to uncover something that other employees in the building know the answer to.

The real problem is when newspapers do this kind of fluff journalism for politicians. I don’t really give a fuck if Elle wants to treat Emma Stone and Jlaw with kid gloves, this whole thing is harmless.
