I think it’s fair to withhold judgement a bit longer, but it’s definitely not looking good for him at this point. At the very least, it seems highly likely that the attack was orchestrated/coordinated by someone with involved with Empire.  I suppose there’s still a chance that person is not Jussie.

Yeah, I suspect that at least some of the details being reported are off. Which is not to say that nothing happened or that a hate crime did not occur, but the detail that he was recognized as the actor from Empire by his attackers doesn’t make a lot of sense with some of the other information about the attack.
