The reviewer missed the full significance of the plot point. The chef had started out as a poor American - a ‘no one with nothing’, but with the aid of his wits and “tenacity” he rose to the top of a fairly exclusive profession. And he became someone else, a new identity that includes assuming a culture that wasn’t

Not to mention her drag isn’t nearly as out-there (or good) as she thinks it is. It’s sloppy, but not in the purposeful, artistic way like Crystal’s was. It’s a very basic level of weird artsy queen that feels like she’s cribbing from others who did it better

I agree Daya is obnoxious. You’ve heard of “they’re good and they know it” queens, well Daya’s a “they’re good and have to point out everyone else’s flaws” queen. Just fuck off Daya.

The likes of Ozzy and Tammie were great character picks, but ideally you should know what your character’s speaking voice sounds like and other little details like that. Ozzy didn’t even have the right hair, for cryin’ out loud. The man has had a grand total of two hairstyles in his entire life and that wasn’t either

Willow could’ve saved that moment of not knowing she and RuPaul did some C-list gig decades ago in a couple different ways, starting with “if you’d read my book, you might know I don’t remember much of my early career” or some such subtle nod to both how old Ru is and how Drew used to be off the rails.

God, Daya is so obnoxious. Despite thinking they were all equally deserving of having to lip sync for their lives, I was kind of hoping it would be Daya vs. Jasmine and Jasmine would send her ass home.

Thank you for this comment. I was too mentally exhausted to type these points myself.

It’s honestly baffling to me how the author can extract so much meaning and nuance from Cassie’s storyline and in the same breath complain that the show doesn’t care to portray that meaning.

I’m glad that the Breaking Bads/Mad Mens of the world went off the air before this site pivoted to seeing everything through “did the characters get what I think they deserved?” lens of criticism.

This dismissal of Jules plays into and gives validity to the hatred that she receives from the audience that is due to transphobia.

I’m sure you said what many of us are thinking.  Recaps are dull, but current reviewers aren’t up to “think pieces” either.  One reason why AV Club has been a less frequent stop these past 3 years.

Thank you thank you. This reviewer doesn’t get the show. And is scolding/giving notes to the creator — placing boundaries on the play and the other action wound have made for a stronger episode !??? To miss the kaleidoscopic storytelling of the series is to miss so much of the vibe the feeling the meaning. Also Cassie

Agreed on the quality of writing in these reviews.

Euphoria affords greater humanity to the female characters who aren’t shown to be sexual Any character that does not fit neatly in one of those categories is reduced to a background character or just defined by another character trait.

Maybe. I might argue that a group of teenagers treating a school play like a matter of life and death is, in fact, the most realistic depiction of high school on this show.

I disagree with the position this review takes. Outside of the Zendaya-focus showcase a few weeks back, l thought this episode was the strongest of the season.

I believe it was a brisket.

Well then my advice to you is don’t watch it.

Yes, Rose Byrne is really good in it and as someone with some disordered intrusive thought patterns, I haven’t seen a show quite nail it this perfectly. She’s dislikable in the sense she hates herself, not that she’s actually a dislikable person.
