Where do you live?! At least on the West Coast, they are still kicking around. There is one parked a block away from my house...but now that I think about it though, it hasn’t moved in a while.

Oh, I missed that - Ok, heartwarming story complete!
Considering that he has fantasies where America is culturally and socially back in the 1940s-50s, I am worried your satire is very close to his reality.
Or climbing ropes / gear
Oh, I agree in principle that hydration is good- but in the whole history of automobiles, cupholders are a fairly recent phenomenon, and one driven by the tastes of the American consumer. Most cupholders are designed for a can of soda or cup of coffee and now an even greater range of (larger) beverages. Even bottled…
Really, wonderful writing and photos. Touching story, and really the only thing that could have made it better would be your Opa holding a toy Jeep at the end.
I agree - it is never a worthwhile road to go down to explain to most people the differences between Donk, Bubble, and Box...though you do so very well.
Or...how/why cars have cupholders at all, and how an American lifestyle choice of drinking beverages and driving changed automotive interior design. I swear the worst inital cupholder designs were from European makes that really didn’t want people to use them.
My favorite nerd topics are :
I’m with you - and have been very happy with the used Leaf that we bought. Even with limited range, it is a very useful car around the city, and super cheap to operate. I really needs almost zero maintenance outside of tires, but the few warranty issues we have dealt with were quickly dealt with by local Nissan…
While this shit is indeed gold, I just can’t be down with tarnishing Gucci like that by association. I mean, Gucci Mane is living the good life : got healthy, fit and clean while serving time, about to get married, and is blazing new tracks on a weekly basis. Guwop 1017 is for real.
Is this one of those Lego engines from yesterday? Yikes!
Ha - from reading your other posts, it seems that you are experiencing Post Flat Four Traumatic Stress Disorder (PFFTSD).
Did you somehow miss the post about Vanagons earlier today?
Everyone is drunk in an Uber/Lyft anyway, so this is how they would look flopping around. Though really, there is evidence that tensing up can cause greater injury, so you are better off drinking ...
That’s not even a fast one. For the truly crazy who want their campers with power:
Plenty of people have chemical toilets and outdoor showers rigged up in their Vanagons, but yeah, they are a bit basic.
hot take. I liked his early work which was definitely relevant to the time and place I first heard it : about a dozen years ago in eastern WA state, having previously lived in the Seattle area. This auto-tune’d song just seems like a new era of silliness from someone who never took himself that seriously.
The grandpa car I remember was a Volvo 240 DL wagon.
Great story and beautiful car - those of last minute wrenching heroics are the best. Though I think I know why your headlights are so anemic...the fancy shades aren’t helping ;)
