The other two people replying to you did a better job of replying to your comment than anything I can be bothered to write right now. Although in your defence, this particular idiotic strand of argument was started by GrizzlyUrsula and not you. You did carry it on though, in a frankly bizarre fashion.
Britain is the main landmass (consisting of mainland Scotland, England and wales) in the United Kingdom. GB does not have its own Olympic team. "Team GB" includes people from the Channel islands, Isle of Mann and Northern Ireland (and others).
Lolo Jones was the second fastest qualifier out of the heats today and beat the other 2 Americans. Yeah, totally useless.
How does this situation apply to friendships among gay people? Do gay dudes have platonic friendships with each other? Do gay women?
Yeah, I probably used examples that were too different and probably not good comparisons. I think parenting necessarily involves sacrifices. Everyone seemed to be dogmatically insisting that the mother's wants was the deciding factor in all cases and although in this case it may be, it seemed a little off. Sometimes…
...What the fuck motivated this idiocy? Was the idea of going to Mars too unrealistic? How could they possibly think this was even remotely sensible?
Does anyone else think the apparently standard procedure of giving mothers lots of formula might be a money thing? I mean, employing lactation experts and suchlike (which I believe is covered by midwives over here in the UK) is presumably expensive, whereas being paid to shower formula on people by the companies who…
I'm not talking about forcing people to do anything. I think if you can breastfeed, you should. If it does make you uncomfortable, that's pretty unfortunate but obviously the decision rests with the mother and nobody should judge or belittle them for not doing so (and I apologise if any of my comments have come across…
I don't think "I don't want to" is a valid reason to not feed your kid properly and instead give them only McDonald's. There is more to parenting than fulfilling your kid's basic needs in such a way that their rights aren't violated (which is subjective anyway). I think you need a better reason than "I don't want to"…
I think the punishment for adultery is stoning. But maybe only for women. And I'm not sure if face-sucking counts as full on adultery. Maybe it's just a few pebbles/small rocks.
Why? It's none of your business what other people do or don't eat. If someone thinks they feel better by not eating gluten, that's their business. More doughnuts for me.
Even for not smoking or drinking whilst pregnant?
Feeding your kid nothing but McDonald's wouldn't be considered superb parenting, even if the parent really wanted to. It wouldn't appear to violate the child's rights either.
My first sentence is "At what point does "I don't want to" stop being a perfectly valid reason?" Don't you think that implies that I am aware that for some things it isn't, and some things it is?
Obviously not. The law isn't the only factor here and I just mentioned the court as part of an example. We do actually decide that some parenting decisions are so terrible as to be illegal. Others, whilst not crossing the line into illegally poor, can still be bad decisions.
At what point does "I don't want to" stop being a perfectly valid reason? I mean, I assume if someone didn't bother to feed or clean their child, the court wouldn't accept "I don't want to" as a valid reason.
Apparently the last time you checked was about a million years ago. Breastfeeding is significantly better and has been known to be so for a long time.
You must be busy to know literally every pregnant woman in the country.
It's really depressing that you often have to explicitly bring up members of someone's family to try and get them to understand that what they're doing isn't very nice.
