Ah, I guess if you're feeding formula or jars of baby food or what-have-you.

Apparently the average age of marriage for men is two years older than for women (in the US), so I'd suggest some but not all of it could be attributed to that. But it's definitely a good point. And they need to do a study that tracks both at once. And other things that affect it such as smoking, and drinking etc. You

...Wow. From an academic point of view that's probably pretty helpful but I can't bear the thought of anyone telling me what time to go to bed/be at home. Especially on weekends.

Yeah, it seems odd that it's not a common fact. Like, how would anyone not know when they were most fertile? How can have we set up sex education in such a way as to not educate people about when they are most likely (and safely able to) have a child? Or to make them curious enough to find out? What are we actually

Sometimes you do wonder if there are people (like the quoted middle-aged moron) whose mouths are completely disconnected from any of the higher areas of the brain.

...I usually get all defensive about science when people criticise it for banging about obesity so much but there seem to be a bajillion of these lately. I'm going to blame the media more though.

Thanks for clarifying this. I was wondering what the circumstances were (I assumed nothing like Romney's) and not only was it a non-event (there's a surprise), but it turns out he [Obama] was awesome when he was a kid too.

A curfew? Aren't universities for adults?

Yes, and I sympathise. I wish I could help but I've been following the news too much lately myself and I don't know where to start.

Ha, agreed. I don't hold with unconditional love. My love is totally conditional on people not being wankers.

I'm years (probably/hopefully) away from having kids and I already worry about the effect that tv and all the shit you see in popular culture could have on my kids. If only I could cut out negative culture too...

There is a difference between paedophiles, hebephiles and ephebophiles. I don't really see how you need a documentary to explain that. Hebephiles aren't even attracted to teenagers, they're attracted to pubescent kids. Ephebophiles is more like the age range he means: 14-16 i.e. adolescent.

Maybe this makes me sound cold-hearted/idealistic (both?) but I don't think I'd find it at all difficult to cut out absolutely anyone if I thought they might have a negative effect on my kids. If I have a daughter and someone makes any comments about her weight, they're out the front door and aren't coming back.

Sometimes it becomes clear that Stephen Fry was bang on the money when he said that Jesus would not be welcome in the Catholic Church if he turned up today.

...Congratulations to the championship winning team.

Yeah, but modern trials tend to have a fair bit more evidence, including forensic stuff.

I'm not sure that argument makes sense. Breast milk doesn't appear from nowhere, nursing mothers have to significantly boost their calorie intake to produce it i.e. they'll still be spending money on food, just food that the mother eats instead.

...I'm not sure I really need to explain how wrong you are.

Pretty sure that's bollocks. Nobody knows who did it and unless someone gets a time machine, I doubt anyone will ever find out.

Presumably because they take the view that criminal reform is possible, he's shown (as far as I can see, from admittedly very far away) genuine remorse and attempted to atone for both, and he was a hopeless, suicidal drug addict at the time of the latter?
