Yup - add in some humidity and now we’re (literally) cookin’.

The fable of “The Scorpion and the Frog” comes to mind...

I was thinking about this while making instant ramen for lunch - I really wanted to go get Indian food at a place that’s about 2.5km away - but then I thought about having to start up my car, drive over, park, pickup the food, and then come back.

I’m in Toronto, and live about 2.5km from a street that’s relatively-walkable (it’s an older neighbourhood, pre-WWII constructions, so modern zoning/parking requirements don’t apply) - it is always busy with families, seniors, etc. shopping and dining.

Not a slight against Jalops who like Teslas (you’re here because you’ve got an interest in cars, so this wouldn’t apply to you), but this seems to me like a great illustration of some Tesla “stans” - they’re appliance users and hype/gadget enthusiasts first-and-foremost: the fact that he couldn’t even notice that the

On the plus side, sovereign citizens don’t pay taxes - so at least they don’t have to take umbrage about “taxpayers paying for those bullets”

Sub-6% in the US alone - which is a very large market, but not the only market. The issues with infrastructure are still there (even in the US and Canada). The 175% increase is certainly impressive, and I don’t disagree that electrification (to one degree or another) is going to be the prevailing trend, but don’t

Just a bit of pedantry to start a Friday morning: “hurdle” vs “hurtle”

That’s a narrow view of the industry, given that EV penetration is still sub-5%.

    This is true...

Saw this a couple weeks back!

That makes sense. I mean, there were articles on here just days ago about how Electrify America chargers had bricked a few cars.

    Now playing

Somehow, this song (with its guitar riffs and drums) seems like a perfect fit for a poorly-made music video featuring a cruise through the neon lights of the city late at night, or an Initial D montage.

    Now playing

    Since you been gone
I been hangin’ around here lately
    With my mind messed up
Jumped in my car tried to clear my mind
    Didn’t help me
I guess I’m all messed up now baby
Soon as I jumped into my ride
    Those memories start to play
A song comes on the radio
And there you are baby once again...

    Now playing

This song always hits hard - but also speaks a little bit to the freedom/escape we can get when behind the wheel. Maybe that impression (however brief) that you are in control, that you can drive away from the troubles.

I was thinking - I know that sounds like a good thing and a bragging point in his mind, but for those of us who’ve been paying attention to FSD, it seems almost like an indictment of the company if THAT’S the most profound thing about it...

Eh, nothing that won’t be fixed with a simple OTA update.

Oof, that’s embarrassing - I mixed up my favourite Toronto-area Youtubers - it was the ThrottleHouse video I saw, not TheStraightPipes

Adding to the chorus of “damn, that’s a nice purple”

TheStraightPipes actually did several drag races of the FK8 (2022) vs FL5 (2023), and the FK8 consistently beat the FL5 - of course, there’s a chance that it was an issue with the car they had, but interesting and counterintuitive nonetheless.
