I did love Anna’s piece on Superstar Machine, but for me, NOTHING can top her dispatches from the conspiracy theorists’ cruise. That was such an amazing bundle of WTF delivered in a thoughtful and calm way.

I’m sure it didn’t make the timing cutoff, but Madeleine’s Becoming Ugly essay deserves a spot on here too. That hit me (as I’m sure with most everyone who read it) right in my core in a way few pieces of writing have.
A few more things you gotta know about this, Terry Bradshaw can be a major jerk. He was a qb for the Steelers and helped lead them to 4 super bowl wins. There was a major falling out and he’s been crapping on the organization, the then head coach (Chuck Noll, who was like the coaching equivalent of RBG), etc. Whenever…
A book I recently read had the opposite - a spectacular line of shady-ass fucking shade - and I almost considered sending it to Kara as an example of greatness, but like all good shade, its power rests in context and I was too lazy to explain the backstory.
The whole “Hollywood” Henderson comment also reminds the reader that it has been 30+ years since Bradshaw was a Relevant and Successful Football Man. It’s the football equivalent of “was a great model, I remember seeing her in my mom’s catalogs.”
I live to serve. Even the sportsmen.
Not only that, but it contains a couple of cases filled with pure, sweet shade. Balm for the soul.
Thank you for taking the last case. This man of Deadspin needed that clarification
Here we are. Can you believe it? Did you, like me, worry we’d be stuck in a never-ending vortex wherein this year…
He’s the son of the Press Secretary so I’m guessing he’s heard his father say it. It’s one of the things that makes it so cute, to me - that he has that insider lingo.
That got me, as well as “The President is always asking staff to bring their babies and young kids by for a visit.” SOB.
“‘I love that picture,’ the President said to me when he saw this one hanging on the walls of the West Wing. Truth be told, he says that about every picture that features Malia or Sasha.”
Pete Souza is a great photographer and a damned decent guy. “Afterwards, I tracked down his name — Clark Reynolds — and had the President sign a copy for him” He didn’t have to do that, but did it anyway to give a kid the most amazing gift
Ugh, stop pretending to care about fat people; just admit that they make you uncomfortable because they don’t fit in with what you imagine to be ‘right’.
Fun fact: from a scientist’s perspective, weight and BMI have nothing to do with each other. You can be thin and unhealthy, and you can be fat and fit and healthy. And even more: the BMI got arbitrary limits and names. The BMI of “normal” was chosen as a reflection of what was socially acceptable as “normal”. If you…
You sound awfully dogmatic. I’m not so sure what is “absolutely true.” I suspect a lot of your opinion is bogus and aesthetic judgement rather than health evidence.
Give Pope a break, you gave them absolute shit to work with.
Please let me add to the fuck offs, you fucking concern troll.
Oh look a concern troll. Fuck off.
Thing is, most of my friends grew up in the same era that I did, during the rise of feminism, and we don’t slut shame. Something younger women don’t seem to acknowledge is the fact that many of us came before them and paved the way. Tbh, the worst things I hear are from the younger women on my Facebook feed.
