First and foremost, I agree wholeheartedly with the concluding premise of the article; we 100% need stronger workplace protections and regulations in this country. For everyone. Workers aren’t even seen as a commodity. They are an expense. Today’s super robber barons want their perceived liability of labor costs to disappear. They have absolute contempt for the human beings in their employ.

There is plenty of blame to go around. The first is squarely on the cities like NYC and their money grab in the form of medallions. This problem is also happening in San Francisco with the city being sued by the local credit union for losses from backing the loans for taxi medallions.
