You know you're actually learning about history when you feel uncomfortable.

Not being in the classroom I would say that what matters is whether the teacher properly introduced the lesson and set up guidelines so that the students could feel like they were in a safe space and could react accordingly. It's less of an issue for me that he actually showed videos depicting racism because, wait for…
insisted that the KKK was not in fact racist.
The whole world took notice because this is barbaric.
Reading Rainbow was there for me growing up , Why should I not be there for it now ?
The person who said she's not a feminist is actually black. Maybe there's more than one person saying that but the main poster who came out and said she's not a feminist CLEARLY stated in her post - I think even multiple times - that she is a black woman. Not liking a particular pop star does not make you racist. Get…
Just call me LolaCat74 as I have a picture on my mantle of my mom at her baby shower for me holding a beer and a lit cigarette. Glorious.
I'm not talking about reverse racism because such a thing doesn't exist as racism doesn't go in any one direction, so it's impossible for it to be running in reverse.
Those terms don't necessarily imply an effective oppressive force, especially misandry and heterophobia. Neither misogyny nor homophobia are restricted to usage that refers strictly to an overall oppressive force; Ariel Castro's still a misogynist even if we live in a post-sexist world, and male authors have still…
People can be oppressed on any pretty much any basis you can think of. Oppression does not need to exist on a societal scale to exist. If someone is discriminated against for being cisgender on even the smallest scale, they are being oppressed, within that context, for their gender identity.
"While in Japan I asked my driver to pull over for which I saw a beautiful shrine."
It reminds me of that old joke/story about God:
Why does this all feel like a big lie?
Tons of Americans are actually this stupid, and many are even more stupid than this.
This is why other countries make fun of us, you guys.
You know he had a Camaro.
The last time I "stuck to my culture," I got death threats on Tumblr for wearing a silk scarf on my head (not even in the style of a niqab or hijab, just over my hair) the way many other Russian women do. So I think I'm just gonna keep wearing whatever I want, thanks.
I agree with this. I DEFINITELY don't understand when it's clothing or fabric patterns. I can certainly understand when it's something of religious significance. I'm Jewish, I'd feel a little weird if I saw someone wearing tefillan (leather straps that hold a prayer box in place - a little kinky if you ask me)... but…
I can tell you that you will have a normal life. I have an eight month old, which I do realize does not make me the be all/end all of everything that is parenting, but I want you to ignore the apocalypse speakers. Everyone with children told me my life would never be the same (but it came across as it will never be as…
I think it's odd in general to think of a relationship as a job. I'm a wife but I don't think of myself as a psychologist, financial advisor, chef, prostitute and laundress. As a friend I don't think of myself as a events manager, life coach, psychologist, companion and career counselor. That's weird. All of our…
