If Flashpoint Paradox, Assault on Arkham the New 52 JL movies etc. are too dark and grim for you guys, I recommend JLA: Trapped in Time. Its kid-friendly, with no blood or anything, but still action-packed and the story was good enough.

I see what you mean. Haven't made it that far in TCW to know exactly what you're talking about, but yeah they were really casual with death in that show. Clonetroopers seem to die by the dozen with nobody blinking an eye. Then again, being expendable is pretty much what they were made for.
