Depends on how thick/unkempt a beard one keeps. I trim mine every three weeks or so, and I’ve found it gives my jawline a little more contour. I also genuinely prefer beard to clean shaven (note: my wife says she’ll divorce me if I go clean shaven, so even that were my preference, I’ve already made this bed).

You start shaving your face just below your jawline and stay about an inch above your Adam’s apple.
