It’s the ‘sanctuary moon of Endor’ as in it’s named Endor and was originally a moon of Coruscant in the early development of Return (Revenge) of the Jedi. They just didn’t change the name for the final version.

Like James points out in the article, it’s because every individual alien introduced in Star Wars becomes the avatar of the entire race. It’s beyond lazy and I admit I never quite grasped just how lazy until this article.
