That’s one of the main reasons I decided to get a BRZ tS instead of waiting for the Supra.

All of this sounds fantastic.

That’s because you’re comparing it to a Honda. The 86 twins are more on par with an S-chassis or FC in terms of driving dynamics.

I did rent a new one in Japan for a few days (and loved it), and my dad has a BRZ.

How early do you mean?

I rented a new 86 for two days in Japan, and took it on roads like Hakone, Haruna, and Usai. It was all the great things about an 86, just better. It felt like a more livable AE86 with twice the power, and a better chassis. I was with a Japanese friend who was driving his own 86, and when we got to the top of Haruna,

They got rid of most of the torque dip with the 2017 update, as well as changed the gearing. It drives much better now.

Having driven both, and having access to tight technical canyon roads, my money is going to the BRZ. The 86 twins honestly have better handling. The ND Miata is fantastic, and I love Miatas, (I’ve had 3) but the 86's just feel much better. On tight technical mountain roads, they really shine, with the power band

Everyone saying the 86 twins are underpowered don’t seem to recall the AE86 that is the inspiration for these cars. An underpowered, great handling car that was cheap to mod and maintain, and would train the driver. It was never about going fast in straight lines, it was about being fun to drive and a forgiving

Because you still get brembos, full STI aero, and a bunch of other parts that are desirable but would cost way more added separately. I plan on changing out the wheels and struts, but beyond that, it’s a pretty perfect build as is.

In literally every market but the US, these cars carry the STI badge.

If you love cars from Japan’s bubble era, you’ll love the 86 twins. They are as close to a brand new 90's JDM car you can get. (My tS is being delivered at the end of February.)

The Miata is a modern day Miata.

According to Subaru, you start feeling it around 50mph. So perfect for canyon and track.

Purple car owner here. Purple is a fantastic color.

I don’t know what color “suffering” is, but based on everything leading up to it, it sounds awesome.

Now playing

And now we know how Liam from Mass Effect got his car delivered.

You have a very good point. Generally the markets where a small, low-powered sports car would sell are already home to these types of cars built in that market, so the consumer base would tend to stick to the brands they know. A big selling point of the Corvette would be the American-ness of it, and part of that is

That’s only Euro GT-86 sales, which have always been weak. Japan and Australia have strong 86 sales.

Yes, I forgot about the camera rig they mentioned. That extreme weight bias combined with a novice driver would make for a very bad day, but most people who aren’t knowledgeable about cars wouldn’t notice it as a potential problem. It’s easy to see how it could get overlooked, especially since everyone was rushing to
