I know. I was playing a round of “Let’s Name Some 90's Canadian Bands That Had Some Kind of Impact in the U.S.”

I know... They are a goofball band, though.
Fuck. That’s been a decade? Time flies.
Yeah. That’s when I checked out. “Everything to Everyone” was the last one that I found something enjoyable on (well, and the Christmas album is fun to mix into a holiday radio station when streaming).
I don’t know if I agree that anything other than Survivor would be a good adaptation. I also thought that when Choke (a not bad adaptation of a less than good book) came out.
Are we still caught up in 9/11 to make Survivor problematic? I just don’t get it. That book is a far better cast of characters than Choke or…
Shit’s about to get Tragically Hip up in here...
I could see that. It got a lot of play (and is a better song, imo, over the years), I just thought that Fire Woman broke through on the charts here more at the time. But that’s off memory, not google of any kind.
Maybe they were regional? This song was played a lot in like 1997?
Yeah. I’m a little vague there. They were played heavily on an alternative station, but I remember one time when people were classifying them as metal or something that just didn’t jive. The GnR tour I think put them in some people’s minds as hair metal-adjacent, maybe?
Yeah. These songs don’t count as flashbacks if you hear them at least once every couple of weeks.
BNL up to Maroon has a long-held place in my heart. I know they’re not “great” but they’re fun.
Lighten up, Francis. It was a joke. Besides, you’re the one saying that it will “drive more people” (apparently against their will or desires... so, yes, forcing...) to torrent. It won’t.
Nah. I’d give you that the first couple FF albums were potential extensions of what Nirvana might’ve been. But, no. FF doesn’t improve upon Nirvana and there’s definitely diminishing returns.
Everclear had high highs and low lows (unintentional Art Alexakis-related reference... okay, maybe a little intentional).
Biggest hit was probably Fire Woman... yeah. ‘89/’90.
You mean the lesser Canadian band that isn’t Barenaked Ladies?
Oh, yeah. This is all the KROQ of my early ‘20s.
These songs will NEVER leave my subconscious, no matter the amount of alcohol, drugs or electroshock I throw at it.
If anything, those elements only bring those songs closer to the surface, they’re so engrained in my brain.
They were problematic even in the ‘80s.
True. Though the MP album was deeper than Harvey Danger. Just that “Flagpole Sitta” is probably one of the best one hit wonders of the ‘90s. I’d stake it as the top of that list, actually. It still works. A lot of that power pop holds up (someone else mentioned Fountains of Wayne).
“Peace Dog” is still a fire-up classic. Granted, these days it’s to fire up and push through a treadmill workout.
I’m fine switching on any of these other than Netflix. I suffer from the “I’m going to get to that list this week, I swear” problem that helps keep the company afloat (much like my Y membership that I swear I’m going to get over to and use this weekend).
