I’m not even remotely claustrophobic and I’ve only had one MRI (shoulder injury) but I recall the experience as soothing. I guess this was before they piped in music. I found the bangs, whirs and groans oddly, well, soothing.

I worked with an African-American woman who herself had a bland French/American name. She once told me she very deliberately gave her three children, all boys, very common and Caucasian first names so they at least wouldn’t be discriminated against “on paper.”
