I really just didn’t understand why he didn’t at least force Caruana to make the time control at move 40 (it was in the early 30s) and he had a huge time advantage. My not professional at all opinion was that black was in control of that position and was unlikely to lose in the next ~10 moves, so why not play for move…

A lot of these coaches have gotten a pass for all of time by just shrugging their shoulders and pretending to not know. Now that people are starting to hold them accountable for things they clearly do know or clearly *should* know - it’s somehow unfair.

Printing a ‘receipt’ for you and for the desk would remove the issue with these machines. Printing a barcode on them would even allow for fast tabulation later if a race needed to be verified.
