Fair enough... And I also routinely stick with +/- .005 given that most of what I do is either laser cut or molded. But what I was getting at was the tolerance stackup. Of course there are ways to minimize the stack. But I still maintain that holding 3 digits on a vehicle seems either extreme or extremely expensive.

Came here for this - not disappointed! It is absolutely one of my favorite parts of going to Glenwood Springs.

Sure... And when you fly around a blind curve in Glenwood Canyon to see a 1 ton boulder on the road?

True story. I remember when Vail used Saabs for their police fleet. I think they switched to Volvo SUVs now... But that kinda gives an inkling of how Vail views itself.

I don’t think the area they were eventually pulled over in was Glenwood Canyon. But from the story that appears to be where they were observed doubling the speed limit. Which would make sense given the hanging highway portion is twisty and beautiful... And also a really stupid place to speed. I can’t count the number

So I design actual manufacturable products which are sold - and I can’t imagine any fabricator who would agree to hold to +/- 0.005 (which is what 0.01" basically works out to).

I loved this post but only let me assign one star. I feel ya brother... I feel ya!

Awww man... Bringing back the feels. That was my car from 17-22 and my Dad then kept it for another 20 years. It really was fun and perfectly impractical (seriously... Have you tried to get it on in the “back seat” of an Opel GT?). Easy to wrench on - hell I was a teen and replaced water pump, alternator bracket,

I think this was one of the more impactful things I have read here - and thank you for sharing. I am thankful for what you did as a part of your duty and sorry that it has affected you so. I’m sorry if has been difficult and I encourage you to find groups or others to discuss similar experiences or feelings with. You

I am also a “Libtard” and think that Skillbilly is an asshole and I feel deeply for the OP. Maybe things aren’t quite so fucking black and white, okay? So maybe lay off the us-versus-them shit and just try and focus on the fact that a commenter is an asshole instead of assigning sides when you don’t know if they exist.

What the hell is an “exhaust tick” anyway? I mean, sure, when they cool down they might tick. But do Ferrari’s have some special mechanical exhausts? Because that was a valve tick if I have ever heard one.

I like to use a lighter as an example... Look at it like the color of a flame. The hotter the flame the whiter the color and the thus the higher CCT. Does that make sense? So, yes, a CCT of 2700 is going to feel very yellow (warm) even though it is a much cooler flame, whereas a CCT of 6000K is going to feel extremely

I am just confused, because you obviously know something about lighting. But yellow is warmer, not cooler. And we all know that cooler CCT is viewed as brighter. What you bring up with fog lamps deals with the the scotopic versus photopic range of vision for humans. Which, by the way, has lots of theories but no real

Every LED runs on DC. Every single one. And most every one runs between 5-24v as input. Anything more and they get classified in a much more stringent category by UL. But voltage is is not an issue with heat, amps are the issue with heat... And even then, most LED chips run at about 250-750 milliamps. Just sayin.

I read the other responses... Here is how it shakes out, LEDs do not produce IR light (heat lamp or what you get with an easy bake oven). But anything that is not 100% efficient must then compensate in some way. So, for an LED that is, say, 80% efficient - then 20% of the power (let’s say 1 watt) must end up somewhere

Yeah... Kinda. I mean let’s be honest here, any LED used for white lighting has basically a 160-180 degree of emission. So hardly limited. And then comparing LUX to lumens? I get where you are going - but it is all about efficacy and as you well know, LEDs have passed that HPS or MH point some time ago. They can be

A bit extreme... You need to get used to the concept of LEDs because they are going to be the main lighting element in your life soon. If it isn’t already.

As someone who works in the lighting industry, albeit not this particular industry, I was struck by just how inefficient those replacement lamps looked. They relied entirely upon 1-4 reflections. Though the halogen didn’t look much better what with the black capped end. Just stupid and inefficient - they could do so

Counterpoint... Yamaha 920 Virago followed by a 1976 Harley Shovelhead... You know, if you never want to actually pass your M license.

That isn’t drifting gone bad... That is just bad driving. Period
