My take:
In reality, it’s an acquired feel to slide it into gear. Much like engaging first on my Corvair while moving. For a while, I just didn’t. After a while you got a feel of “drag until a notch is right then slide”. If you’re not familiar with manuals at all, that gear might as well be non existent.

The tooling alone has to be obscene. So many deep curves and large surfaces that must be smooth means you need large molds.
