Of course. I remember when the inclusion of the cow level in Diablo 2 absolutely ruined the tone of the entire game so hard the next game came out as a Wow colored cartoon. At least, that’s the only thing I can infer from Mr. Ferg’s comments.

My example fits the narrative better. In my example, the person dies outside the normal expectations of the risks, much like this person. In your example they died in the normally expected way. That would be like dying to a mob, a trap, a boss, etc. I agree with the rhetorical goals of your original analogy, and…
That depends on if the consequences are something you’d be significantly affected by. I normally avoid hardcore like the plague. For some reason I tried it out this time, and haven’t really cared about losing my characters. Just been enjoying the ride, and trying something new on the next one.
Correct they don’t affect gameplay at all. Whether they’re benefits or not is in the eye of the beholder.
It’d be more like you’re playing russian roulette, and when someone goes to pass you the gun, they accidentally hit you in the head with the butt of it killing you instantly.
There are titles you can only get in Hardcore.
Probably could have left the article title at ‘Overwatch 2 can’t’
It’s not that I expect games to take as long as they took previously, it’s that I expect (want) publishers to not announce games until they’re close to release. I don’t need to hear about a game more than 6 months out.
That’s too limited of a view. Flip the script for a moment, let’s say the Company ‘Users’ is selling Attention and Personal Data. Part of what they’re charging is free access to the API. Reddit has decided not to pay that bill, so ‘Users’ has stopped providing the service.
It’s not an opinion, it’s an accusation framed like an opinion. I feel like you wouldn’t be a fan of a celebrity having the ‘opinion’ that you, Mark, should stop breaking into people’s houses and defecating on their kitchen floor, and they brought it up every time your name came up, you might not want to support their…
I’m really disappointed that he’s not a killer. I probably would have played this game to be killer Cage.
“That’s because Diablo IV’s hardcore mode treats disconnects like death in order to discourage players from trying to pull the plug in a losing battle to avoid losing a character.”
This is so early 2000's in too many ways.
I could be so easily tricked into spending a ton of money on a game if the prices are reasonable. Like warframe. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on it over the years. It’s the only game that’s gotten me to do that just because I feel like my money goes very very far.
“the AI realized that the human was getting in the way of its mission and its points”
The article writers don’t like it either. Kotaku writers vs. Kotaku owners is an ancient ongoing war.
I don’t need the numbers and move names, I need the game to convey the consequences of actions through the look and feel of the interaction. Done effectively, the UI can be largely made redundant.
The use of ‘singleplayer’ here seems to also include coop? As long as new ‘singleplayer’ games have co-op, I’m happy.
I don’t know enough about the game to agree, but indeed my intent was ‘open world’, not sandbox.
I wouldn’t even be disappointed if they hadn’t ruined cosmetic progression and free character additions.
