I can tell you that garbage little community newspapers on the verge of going under, using freelancers with minimal writing skills, are still paying $50 per story. Which is wholly inadequate in this day and age and yet an order of magnitude greater than what SB Nation is paying.

All great points, plus there’s the quality of the data itself. IMBD scores are notoriously unreliable. When you have a population of reviewers who are self-selecting, the opportunity to game the system is immense.
