I can see using a little bar fridge as a bedside table, LOL. I like my caffeine freshly brewed and piping hot in the morning, though. :)

that's a bit extreme! just a bit! :P
Yeah, I'm wondering if there's a way this can be done for small apartment living. I live in the attic of a large house (3rd flr, 1-br apartment). There isn't much free space in here, but I might be able to appropriate some space in the shared basement/laundry area for a small freezer.
makes me wish googledocs (and not so rare laptops) existed when I was an undergrad. I can see how this would work in grad seminars, eg sharing notes on readings, etc. Would be interesting to try to apply this to the undergrad courses that I teach now. hmm.
Nice common sense advice. Now, what to do when you haven't got much storage space? I would totally stack my freezer with frozen fruit at 1¢/lb, but then there's no space for anything else. :/
ever consider you're one of those idiots clogging up the roadways? hmm.
Find some perspective. If you're just bored and filled with ennui, think about how lots of us want to stay here but can't get a job, and then maybe take a vacation. If it's really killing your soul to live where you are, then start looking for opportunities elsewhere (or see if your company will send you overseas).…
all these wonderful ideal devices... work best in dustless environments. if only the entire world was a cleanroom.
how's this different from ask metafilter, or any of the thousands of forums out there, including openthread?
don't know about the rest (don't know much about tablets, really), but are there screen protectors for tablets?
This. I was thinking about how people were going to take this piece of advice literally and the wrong way, and was going to comment on how it'd be better put as, if you didn't have to worry about money, would you do this job for free?
have a mat in your apartment at the doorway to the balcony. wipe your feet as you come in. or keep slippers around the door.
Paperless is great. Particularly bills and such. But now I can't prove my address to the damn library to get my damn library card.
toast two slices, stand them up leaning the tops against each other like you're starting to build a cardhouse. The inside-sides will still soften (steam gets trapped) a little bit, but not as much as if you had them laying down.
Well... are they always heroes? Check out Sandman (DC/Vertigo), Hellblazer (DC/Vertigo), Transmetropolitan (DC). More recent incredible stuff - check out Locke and Key by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez (IDW).
also see: blankets, cushions, pillows, rugs, all your winter woollies, socks for smaller items.
I'm guessing this probably only works if somebody gave me an envelope of money everyday.
Well I was going to comment that #10 Get Some Perspective includes "at least it's better than not having a job, and not being sure how you're going to pay rent next month."
Or one of those hedgehog thingies that you park by the front door and scrape your boots over to remove the muck! I've always wanted one of those.
Depending on what kind of look you're going for (say, minimalist), maybe modem/router sitting on the floor in the corner of a mostly empty room looks pretty cool. But I like utilitarian looks, so I find that nice. If not, a large indoor potted plant? Underneath the floorboards? Mounted on the ceiling?
