All very sound stuff, until I got to the last para: "happiness is a lot harder to come by than money." Nah, I don't believe that stuff. I don't make a lot (grad student, just got my first real job), things are a struggle sometimes, and there are always things I want I can't afford. But I realise I've got to be

I keep a footstool in the kitchen for this very purpose. On those rare occasions I really need that humongous pot that's sitting above the top set of cupboards (you put the rarely used items higher up, right?), I get on the footstool, climb on the counter and get the pot.

Muffin pans?

This!! I don't know what it is about the combination of both, but it's like something special is created from the combi that wasn't there before.

That is true! but ... I don't plan my meals, so I often haven't thawed the meat! Veggies are something I can just pick up on the way home from work, so it makes it an easier meal. Also, I'm cheap! And feel that meats tend to be expensive. ;)

Hmm. I tend to go veggies first, and then figure out what protein I have laying around (usually eggs or tofu or beans, but the occasional chicken or fish), and then decide on the carb I'm craving (rice, noodles, potato?).

This is fantastic. Could have used this when I was teaching social sciences and humanities students quantitative reasoning this winter!

I once cooked rice in chicken stock and scotch whisky. omg.

Bah. Just get rid of paper towels. Promoting waste is what it is. Dry your hands on your trousers. or hair. or shirt. or handkerchief! Imagine that.

great idea! the 2-by-2 ones, maybe. then you could separate them when you need to use both at the same time.

Nah. People just need to treat yoga like any other sport or exercise: go slow. be patient. stay within your limits until you're comfortable taking the next step. No beginner jumps into the deep end of the pool without fear of consequences. No couch potato hits 5k without building up. Yoga is the same.

I actually have a different solution to this (I work in a busy coffeeshop, we have a number of trash bins we clear every few hours) - take the bag of trash out of the bin before you tie it up. I'm not sure if this is the exact same situation, but I've found that once you've tied the trash off, it's really hard to pull

Love this article! I've not had a tower for years, but would probably install a number of these if I had one (and the money).

I have a question - for those of you whose main mode of transportation is biking, how do you protect the seats of your pants? I've lost favourite pairs of trousers (holes in the inseam right at the crotch where the inside of the legs rub against the bike seat) biking in them constantly.

No on the sports bras either! Tech material should never go through the dryer. .. unless your sports bras aren't tech material.. (all of mine are).

I used to think that, too. But I've worn too many holes into my levi's. And this was back in the 90's when they still made clothes that lasted..

This should be an interesting technique to use at the coffee-shop I'm working at. So when people come in and yell their orders at me I'll just stand there are say, "but, why?"

It's not just a "targeted group" thing. These things you (and other people) call "reverse sexism" (or "reverse racism") are simply ways to provide opportunities to, or to encourage participation from otherwise marginalised and under-represented groups (ie. primarily not male, not white). I personally wouldn't use the
