@TheLolotov: Common sense is on its way out - that's why people spend beyond their means. They're being marketed lifestyles they can't afford but are being enticed to desire. Being acquisitive has become a way of life - it's the new "common sense". Common sense has nothing to do with what's right/wrong (or maybe

@libgeek: yeah, the "future earnings" thing is a real myth, and probably what gets people to spend on credit. Bad thing.

I'd wonder if the research should try to figure out if there are activities in particular, both indoor and out, that the children are taking part in the promote eye-health. I spent a lot of time outdoors growing up; at 9 years old I had to sit at the front of the class to see the board, and at 10 I was in glasses. All

@Ant_Eater: hmm. I suppose at a very superficial level you could compare the amount of time kids living in different places, eg, city vs suburbs vs farmland spend outside.

@chillychili: yeah, I hold the leaves and eat from the bottom. If "hulling" for purposes other than eating though, it's just pinch and pull.

Could've used this post yesterday! Went out to play softball in the evening and I guess mosquito season's just opened in Toronto. I got 5 bites on my ass alone, through my pants. Unbelievable. Next week I might burn incense in our dugout.

"Ideally" being the key word. Knowing me it'll just become the next catch-all place that never gets cleared out.

@steve.pye: wow, way to gender normalise.

Buy 2ndhand. Find a good set of forums where early-adopters and builders hang out. They're always buying the latest hardware and upgrading, you get their swap-outs for cheap. Works best when you're building your own, naturally.

@slaw1: Mind over matter only works one way: if you don't mind, it doesn't matter.

@WineToMatch: your point 2 is true of most produce, actually. To get full-flavoured any produce, it should have ripened on the plant. It's a real pity that this can be quite hard to obtain in many of our urban centres.

Are people reading only during summer or what? This confuses me. I'm as busy during summer as I am other times of the year...

@Mr.Gawn: optimal for what? You need to be more precise. Linux OSes can run on just about any config of hardware. The right question is: what do you need it for?

@fjpoblam: food doesn't cost that much to make. lowering the quantity that you get will not substantially lower the price you're paying for it, not at those markups anyway. Think of your markup as the labour and fixed-costs of the restaurant business.

I can see how this is useful if you bike (I do) and hate the look of backpacks (I've actually given in, to save my shoulders and back muscles). If backpacks are really too ugly for you, then consider getting bike messenger bags. You hitch the bag high on your bag (not this ass-whopping length), and secure the strap

For me it was watching my mom cook as I grew up, and then imagining myself in her role when I moved out. After that it's just practice, practice, practice, and learning what you like and how you like it prepared. There are things that come with experience, like that particular shade that green veggies turn when

"worth"? what a curious concept.
