The Regulators would make a fine movie, moreso than Desperation. But c’mon, try re-reading it. It’s all style, hardly any substance, even King admits as much in the forward. I still love it, of course. If you don’t believe me, then I’ll have lil’ baby Smitty bite yer mama’s titty. TAK!

King would revisit that idea in Dreamcatcher, and somehow make it even more muddled.

God that section with Gardner hitting rock bottom may be my favorite King short story ever... too bad it’s surrounded by C+ material at best (But I still like the talking Jesus statue and the way we never get that scene where things go from normal to supernatural/science fiction-y, everybody slowly because telepathic

Hey, the inspiration for the novel The Shining was him imagining a murderous fire hose chasing his 5 year old son around, so maybe what scares King is a bit different than the average person (I personally thought the rage filled alcoholic father who could rationalize his abusive, awful behavior MUCH more concerning

Pretty amusing, another one: He never knew his dad so he imagines most dads are assholes (he’s not wrong, per se). Also interesting how since his mother died relatively young of cancer about 95% of his characters have their parents die in their late 40's or early 50's like that is still the norm.

Hey Battlecar, Don’t you tell ME, I’ll tell YOU... I’d PISS Coors if I could....

My favorite is a New York Cop in The Dark Half who is too homespun to say “Oh wow” or “Oh shit”. He prefers “Ask Mom what she thinks of this!” to communicate his amazement or concern to no one in particular. Says it 5 times in three pages

Yeah, for me the only reason I bothered soldiering on with The Tommyknockers was how blown away I was by the long section (almost a self contained short story in its own right) of Gardner on a poetry reading tour. He goes on a blackout bender and gives a 10 to 15 rant about nuclear power that sets up one of the main

You’ve never had the perspective change in a lucid dream before?

Funny I was more compelled by the Gardner stuff and wish that he’d cut out all the alien bullshit.

It sure is. In fact, I tried an experiment once and picked a few random chapters from the book to read out of order, starting with the chapter about the kid and the magic show. Hmmm.... sure FELT like a complete, self contained story... also the one where the mailman’s wife starts talking to a picture of Jesus on top

Here’s a star for your amusing one word reply...

I’m sure they’ll be using a chainsaw soon to keep Ellen Pompeo’s face tight and unwrinkled...

Nah, they’re saving that dough to give to Max Landis’s next project and another season of The Ranch

Oonly if politics is how you value your own self worth.

Ash ALWAYS wins the gold!

She’s actually barely in the book after the first section. Usually only referred to by the others as their “leader”. There is probably only one POV chapter from her after she starts digging. And to be honest, if she were more prominent, then all the scenes dealing with her menstrual cycle would pop up more often,

Yes. Nonsensical and glorious. I believe he even gets the trots, another staple of King’s little character sketches filling in the margins. Someone always has to shit or piss or get drunk. Or spout a personal catchphrase every other sentence like all dem old Yankees probably did while King was growing up.

Like Black Mirror but for weird horror/supernatural stuff. I like it.

And yet Ash Vs Evil Dead gets chainsawed into an early grave....

I didn’t realize that my sister was still watching it, I remember he watching it with my dad when she was 11 or 12. Now she’s been married for three years.
